Now that it's home safe and sound, I can finally give it a good going over. I had looked it over when I first saw the car, but not as good as you can do when you get it home on your property. The first thing I noticed after looking at the engine was that it had a Q-Jet (translate: junk) carburetor. I drove it to work a day or two and it ran like crap. With it running like crap, I came to find that carburetor was just barely sitting on the engine. Trying to tighten it up, I found that the screws were stripped, so off with the old, and on with the new! This new Holley should make things much better.

The Holley made things better, but the engine was very tired. At this point, I wanted to know for sure what year the engine was and with the aid of my helper we took the starter off to look at the block numbers. Lo and behold, it seems to be the original engine, so the next phase is to strip it and start the long restoration process.

Upon further inspection, I found things I didn't want to see. I'm not sure what that silver stuff is, but I was told it was Por 15 by the guy I bought the car from. It's not as bad as it could be, but more than I was expecting from what I was told.

Surprise, surprise! Under that silver stuff, there was a hole! This will have to be cut out and fixed.
